The project aims to create empowerment and autonomy in women with fewer opportunities, using the bike as a tool for emancipation. W.E.Bike promotes the use of cycling as a sustainable means of mobility and as a possible aggregative and inclusive sport for women from the Afghan community of Rome, ROMA women and those from the inner rural areas of Romania, and migrant women in Luxembourg. Starting from the experience gained by L'isola che c'è A.P.S. with the Erasmus Sport Project "G.E.A.R.", (2022/2023 - participation and inclusion of young and old, through the use of bicycles), W.E. Bike is aimed at women with less opportunity, by involving them in a process of approaching the bicycle as a sport, and in the creation of paths of safe autonomy, suitable for urban mobility. The choice of the target group stems from the analysis of data related to mobility and integration of immigrant groups in large cities (ISTAT 2023-IT Annual Report), and the percentage of women with low income single-parent nucleus in Romania (Save The Children Report - 2019). The latter, in fact, represent the highest percentage in Europe, and for them, young, single, with a dependent child and living in rural areas, the chances of emancipation from the family are very low. In addition, data on migration flows in Luxembourg in recent years (ONA - Office national de l'accueil) have been analysed, and despite strong integration policies, The high number of refugees arriving each year calls for the problem to be addressed also from the point of view of mobility and sport. The project involves the inclusion of women with fewer opportunities, through constant physical activity, treated with combined actions, so that the approach to cycling is gradual and correct. Training courses on the risks related to cycling in the city will be created, and based on the sharing of experience. The project, in line with the overall objectives of the call, actively works on inclusion and diversity and on the priority area of environmental sustainability, and on the EU work plan for sport. It aims to increase participation in health-enhancing physical activity for an marginalised group within the European community, with the ambition to promote an active and sustainable lifestyle. This project also addresses the horizontal priority Erasmus+ programme for combating climate change. W.E. Bike aims at inclusion through the values of sport, in all aspects of social, political and economic life, promoting sustainability, the circular economy and the reduction of emissions across borders. Compared to the previous experience of G.E.A.R., W.E. Bike chose to expand the project by including the technological aspect, to create sustainability, and open the activities to the local community. Through the digital platform "Riding the Rainbow" created and tested by partner Aphilantropy asbl in Luxembourg, the project aims to connect local community members with women with fewer opportunities, with the aim of providing the latter with material and social support to be active participants in sport and city life. The principle of the platform is the sharing of goods, in this case sports, and the creation of a virtual network of collaboration and groups. Through the App, citizens can upload a photo and the basic features of the sports object they wish to donate, which will appear on a map based on their approximate location. The project has the following objectives: ● Social inclusion of beneficiaries through the use of bicycles as a tool for socialization; ● Promotion of sport in safety; ● Sustainable alternative to urban mobility; ● Reduced waste and circularity of sports equipment.
